We know that it can be confusing, knowing what can and can’t be recycled when it comes to Christmas waste. That’s why we thought we’d take this time to help clarify things.
Christmas Trees (Real)
Real Christmas trees can be recycled at La Collette (green waste), or an even better idea is to take advantage of the Hospice Care collection system, which they run in early January (check their website for details – click here). Whichever option choose, remember to remove all the decorations first!
Lights & Batteries
If you need to dispose of lights and batteries, these can be sent to La Collette, where there are recycling containers dedicated to these.
Decorations & Wrapping
Paper/Cardboard based goods (without foil or plastic coating) can be recycled as normal in your household collections. If coated with foil and/or plastic, you will need to dispose of this in general waste.
Glass Baubles can be recycled with your the glass recycling, whereas any fabric decorations can be taken to textile banks or charities.
Tinsel and artificial Christmas trees will generally go to landfill or bulky waste.
